What are the problems women face in rural India?
In 2013, India improved its World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report by moving up from 113th to 110th. This progress is positive, however is not lower due to the inequality found in the poorer states of India.

Not only are less women employed, but for the women that are employed, they earn considerably less compared to their male colleagues.
It is not only women who face these issues. It begins with the schooling of girls as in 2018 it was found that only 65.79% of women are literate compared to 82.37% of men. This is mainly due to girls being more likely to leave school early due to circumstances such as early pregnancy or child marriages.

What has been put in place to close the gap between genders in India?
1861 Gave women the right to keep their job whilst on maternity leave as well as claim benefits
1937 Installed giving women the right to own a property
1967 Equal pay for women
1971 Right to terminate a pregnancy to help prevent illegal abortions
2006 Prohibited child marriages as prior to this 47% of girls were married before the age of 18
2013 Protect a woman from sexual harassment in the work place
- As you can see there has been laws put in place to aid the protection of women however it is fully known that these laws are not followed in all states as the statistics indicate this. There is still work to be done in this area and MWS are one of the many charities showing support to the women affected.
